Vijay Mishra Bollywood cinema
temples of desire
The 'Bollywood' film industry in India is the largest in the world: it produces some 200 of the 800 films per year. The author argues that Indian film production and reception is shaped by the desire for national community and a pan-Indian popular culture. Narrative and aesthetic principles and postcolonial studies and film theory are part of the methodology of this study.
