Het kanon van de koning van Kandy, krachtbeelden uit Congo, de Benin-bronzen, Javaanse tempelbeelden: het is maar een greep uit een veelheid van voorwerpen die vaak op oneigenlijke wijze in bezit zijn gekomen van Nederlandse en Belgische musea en particuliere verzamelaars. En dan liggen hier ook nog menselijke resten uit koloniale gebieden. Sinds hun onafhankelijkheid roepen de voormalige koloniën om teruggave van verloren erfgoed. Daardoor voelt dit bezit steeds ongemakkelijker en zoeken regeringen...
